Admission

How we admit pupils

Darul Uloom London admits boys aged eleven and above (of secondary school age). The main entry point is Year 7, where we admit around 30 pupils each year; we also admit a small number of pupils into Years 8, 9 and 10 and into the sixth form when places are available. Admission is by entrance tests in English and mathematics, an interview, and a report and reference from the pupil’s current school. Interviews are usually conducted by the Head of Administration and/or the Head of Boarding and Designated Safeguarding Lead, and are conducted objectively without questions that imply racial or religious bias.

The application form and all required documents must be completed before a pupil can be admitted; until the application is complete, a pupil will not be officially admitted.

As part of the application process, the pupil’s most recent full school report must be submitted with the application (it must refer to his behaviour as well as his academic levels).

If the pupil’s application is accepted, but there is no place at the school at that specific time, the parents will be offered a place on the waiting list and will be notified as soon as a place becomes available.

There are a number of policies in place to ensure that the school runs efficiently. These can be found on the Policies & Documents page. Hard copies are also available on request from the school office.

How to apply: step by step

  1. Parents who are interested in sending their son are requested to complete the Student Application Form (see “How to apply” below). Applications for the new academic year close once we have reached the maximum class capacity.
  2. New Year 7 application forms should be completed by 31 December. Applications received after this time may delay the assessment and offer.
  3. Parents will receive an email from the admissions team inviting themselves and their child to an interview. Please keep an eye on your inbox and junk or spam mail.
  4. If you do not receive the email invitation, please contact education@darululoomlondon.com or call the school office and ask to speak to the admissions manager.
  5. Applicants attend an assessment and open day, usually held between February and April, where they sit entrance papers in English and mathematics, are interviewed and are given a tour of the school.
  6. Places are offered once the forms and paperwork have been processed; letters are sent within four weeks of the final open day.
  7. An online meeting is held in July with all the children offered a place.
  8. A letter providing the start date and enrolment information (book list, room and class allocations, and medical and allergy information requests) is sent out to parents.
  9. Should you have any questions about admissions, or would like to know the status of your application, please email education@darululoomlondon.com or call the school office. You will normally receive a response within three working days during term time.
  10. New pupils start in early September.

Over 16 applications (Year 12 and above)

Over 16 applications may be made at any stage. A request for a written reference, together with predicted GCSE or IGCSE grades, is made from the applicant’s present or previous school.

Criteria for admission

Darul Uloom London welcomes applications from pupils of all abilities. At present our facilities for pupils with disabilities are limited, but we will do all that is reasonable to ensure that the school’s culture, policies and procedures are accessible to pupils with disabilities, and we make reasonable adjustments to our admissions procedures in line with the Equality Act 2010. Information about a pupil’s health, disability or additional needs is used only to plan support and reasonable adjustments, never as a filter for admission.

The academic criteria for selection are: passing the entry tests; a good report from the pupil’s current school; and a positive interview. We are looking for well-rounded role models and proud citizens.

When the school is oversubscribed and we have to decide between applicants who meet our requirements, we may give preference to a pupil with better entry-test results, an earlier date of application, or an outstanding school report.

A place is confirmed once the application and registration fees have been paid and the first instalment of fees has been received, as set out in the Fee Policy. The fee schedule and the Fee Policy are sent to parents with the offer letter.

For all admission enquiries, please email education@darululoomlondon.com or telephone 020 8295 0637.

How to apply

To apply, download our Student Application Form using the button below. You can type into it on screen, or print it and complete it by hand.

The form is in five parts: Part A is completed by the parent or guardian, with the student questionnaire completed by the student himself; Part B is completed by the student’s current school and Part C by his current maktab or madrasah – please pass those pages to them, and they may return them to us directly; Part D sets out the application terms and conditions; and Part E is the application declaration, signed by the parents or guardians and the student.

Type into the boxes on screen and save the file, or print it and complete it in block capitals. Return the completed form to education@darululoomlondon.com, or hand it in at the school office, with a copy of the student’s birth certificate and/or passport and his latest school report, stamped by the school. Applications are not processed until everything has been received.

What happens next. Once we have the completed form, both reports and the documents, we will contact you to arrange an interview and open day. Offers are confirmed in writing with a start date, the book list and the fee schedule.

Before you apply, please read the terms and conditions of application and the application declaration below. They are the same terms and declaration as Parts D and E of the application form.
